I’m sure you’ve seen the memes floating around instagram and facebook…you know the ones…where they talk about entering that time between Christmas and New Year’s and not knowing what day it is, who you are or what you’re supposed to be doing??

Yeah…that’s totally me! We took off on a snowboarding adventure for a few days and I can honestly say that I have absolutely no idea what day of the week it is! The bliss of holidays right?

What I DO know is that the New Year is right around the corner.

One of my favourite things to do is to sit back with a glass of wine (red wine to be specific) and reflect on the past year.  What made the year amazing? What was my favourite part of the year? What did I accomplish? What were some of the struggles and what can I learn from them? Some years have been harder than others, but I like to reflect and find gratitude, even in the more difficult times.

And then I shift my mindset from the past to the future.

I love new beginnings.  Fresh starts.  Empty day timers because yes…I am a pen and paper kind of girl! I love planning.

WHAT IS 2019 GOING TO LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

Just like 50% of the world, I used to sit down on January 1st and make those New Years resolutions.

This was going to be the year that I would get totally ripped.

This was going to be the year I was going to cut out all sugar and processed foods.

This was the year that I was going to be Martha freaking Stewart.

And I did work towards those resolutions.  While there was nothing wrong with those particular goals, they weren’t well defined.  There was no set plan created to achieve them.  The end result seemed so far away that as the year went on, my motivation fizzled. I was so focused on the end result that I failed to see the little improvements that I made.

SO NOW I’VE CHANGED MY MINDSET!

I have shifted my focus to look at the big picture.

What will make this year amazing?

What will help me live my absolute best life?

What feeds my soul?

What makes me get out of bed in the morning with a smile on my face?

What do I need to do to improve my emotional, physical, financial and spiritual health?

And so I sit with a pen and paper and either a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and create a roadmap of my year.  I make my list of 101 Things.

101 things that I want to do over the course of the next 365 days.  Some of the things on my list are crazy simple…such as read two fiction books over the course of the year. Or hike a new trail.  Other things are a little more involved.  This year for example, I’d like to run a total of 100k. Or I plan on saying no to the extra things that don’t truly make my heart happy.

The consistent thing is that I know that absolutely everything on my list leads to me living my very best life!  I print it off and keep it visible and I check things off as I complete them.

I guess you could call it my annual bucket list!

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy what’s left of the holiday season.  And of course… Happy New Year!
